Solutions to common issues in ZapTracker.

Wallet Issues

Wallet Not Connecting

Symptoms: NWC URL not recognized, connection fails

Solutions:

  1. Check the URL format

    • Must start with nostr+walletconnect://
    • Copy the complete URL from your wallet
  2. Verify wallet is running

    • Your wallet app must be online
    • Check that NWC is enabled in settings
  3. Try a fresh connection

    • Delete the old NWC connection in your wallet
    • Create a new one
    • Reconnect in ZapTracker
  4. Clear browser cache

    • Sometimes old data interferes
    • Clear cache and try again

Balance Not Showing

Symptoms: Connected but balance shows 0 or doesn't update

Solutions:

  1. Wait a moment - Balance fetching can take a few seconds
  2. Check wallet balance - Confirm funds exist in your wallet
  3. Refresh the page - Force a new balance check
  4. Reconnect wallet - Delete and recreate NWC connection

Payments Failing

Symptoms: Send/receive doesn't work

Solutions:

  1. Check balance - Ensure sufficient funds (including fees)
  2. Verify limits - NWC might have spending limits set
  3. Check invoice - Ensure the invoice is valid and not expired
  4. Try smaller amount - Test with a minimal payment first

Nostr Connection Issues

Profile Not Loading

Symptoms: Default avatar, missing name/bio

Solutions:

  1. Check extension

    • Ensure NIP-07 extension is installed
    • Extension must be unlocked/active
    • Only one NIP-07 extension should be active
  2. Verify profile exists

    • Have you published a profile to Nostr?
    • Try viewing your profile on another Nostr client
  3. Check relay connectivity

    • Go to Settings → Relays
    • Ensure relays are connected
    • Try adding different relays
  4. Reconnect identity

    • Disconnect your Nostr identity
    • Reconnect via Settings

Browser Extension Not Detected

Symptoms: "No NIP-07 extension found" message

Solutions:

  1. Check installation

    • Is the extension installed?
    • Is it enabled?
    • Does it have permissions for this site?
  2. Single extension

    • Having multiple NIP-07 extensions can conflict
    • Keep only one active
  3. Refresh after install

    • Extensions need page refresh to activate
    • Try hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R)
  4. Extension settings

    • Some extensions need per-site permission
    • Check extension popup/settings

Signing Fails

Symptoms: Actions fail, "signing error" messages

Solutions:

  1. Extension locked

    • Unlock your extension (enter password)
    • Some extensions auto-lock after inactivity
  2. Permission denied

    • You might have clicked "deny"
    • Check extension settings
    • Clear site permissions and retry
  3. Extension crash

    • Disable and re-enable the extension
    • Restart browser if needed

Zap Issues

Zaps Not Appearing

Symptoms: Sent/received zaps don't show up

Solutions:

  1. Wait for sync

    • Relay syncing takes time
    • Give it a minute or two
  2. Check relays

    • Connected to relays where zaps were sent?
    • Add more relays in Settings
  3. Verify the zap

    • Check in your wallet transaction history
    • Check in another Nostr client
  4. Refresh

    • Force refresh the page
    • Check filters aren't hiding zaps

Wrong Zap Amounts

Symptoms: Amounts don't match what was sent

Solutions:

  1. Check fees - Lightning fees reduce final amount
  2. Verify source - Confirm in wallet what was actually sent
  3. Relay lag - Sometimes data syncs slowly

Content Issues

Post Won't Publish

Symptoms: Content doesn't appear after publishing

Solutions:

  1. Check signing

    • Extension must approve the event
    • Don't dismiss the popup
  2. Relay connectivity

    • Must be connected to at least one relay
    • Check Settings → Relays
  3. Content validation

    • Some content might be rejected
    • Check for special characters or formatting
  4. Try again

    • Network issues happen
    • Wait and retry

Content Missing

Symptoms: Published content not visible

Solutions:

  1. Check other clients - Can you see it elsewhere?
  2. Relay reach - Your relays might not reach all users
  3. Give it time - Propagation isn't instant

Performance Issues

Slow Loading

Solutions:

  1. Check connection - Your internet speed
  2. Reduce relays - Too many can slow things
  3. Clear cache - Old data accumulates
  4. Browser performance - Try closing other tabs

High Memory Usage

Solutions:

  1. Refresh periodically - Resets accumulated data
  2. Limit history - Don't load too much data
  3. Update browser - Latest versions are optimized
